Super interesting analysis. While my primary lens is theology (missiology) and I’m not a political scientist… I appreciate the posture as a fellow Christian to be realistic about human nature and sin and evil as real things. The ancients saw these realities and given the increase in religiosity (or spirituality if you will) I suspect many, as you’ve elaborated, wonder if there is something bigger, other-worldly behind the forces at work in our material world. Commend your vulnerability.

At the same time, do I sense a bit of fatalism combined with optimism? People can and do change. Much of my research has been interviewing former extremists (IS and AQ, JN etc) who deradicalized and converted to Christianity. Stories are incredible… your perhaps tongue in check comment about the Middle East converting to Christianity (so we can have peace, love neighbors etc) is actually playing out on a micro-social level in Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan. Some data indicate 50k+ conversions from Islam in the last 10 years!

Great interview and earned a follow from me. Your monologue on whether the Devil is real was extremely powerful and thought provoking.
